Greece

Athens

Italy and Mediterranean Cruise

April 2011

We docked in Athens around 11 am and were off the ship by 11:30 am for a whirlwind visit. We booked a shore excursion here that took us into the city and provided a tour of the Acropolis. That was ok but we probably could have managed just as well on our own. From there we were dropped off to explore the Plaka (market area) on our own. Our first stop was food! The Greek food is as good as I remembered. Of course I had Greek salad and calamari. From there we just roamed the market. Isaac bought a t-shirt that he loves and I think it is awful...seems about normal for a 12 year old and his mother.

Poof! The visit was over and we scurried back to the boat like cattle. Cruising is an easy way to travel but you don't see much with 7-8 hours in a port. It was freezing today...super windy!!!

Once again Isaac loved his supper. At the beginning of the cruise, Ellen asked what the word "glutton" meant. I think she gets it now. Sherry's meal was just fair again but hallelujah there were 3 gluten-free desserts.

Originally, we decided to skip the show tonight as it was piano music...but kinda stumbled on it after dinner and what a treat. Awesome show with a full orchestra...ragtime, big band, musicals, classics. Everything I love. Everything Isaac hates. He tortured. But that's ok...he is still making out pretty good.

Looking forward to our off the beaten path tour outside Kusadasi, Turkey tomorrow.

Early rise so I must turn in. Seems like I will be rocked to sleep pretty hard tonight. Wow! Glad I don't get sea sick. Sherry's cure for sea sickness is to stay full!

Talk tomorrow! S and I
